School Initiatives
Improving the Learning Environment
FIDA activities aimed at socio-economic empowerment of the underprivileged sections of society were initiated at the Wadeshwar Government Secondary Ashramshala in Maval Taluka, Pune District. It is a government school addressing the educational needs of around 400 adivasi kids and children of migrant labourers serving Stds I-X. Although it is a government aided school, it lacks even basic amenities like a library, medical facilities, proper toilet blocks, adequate living space, adequate lighting in the dormitories and even regular water supply.

Children are supplied with slippers to get them into the habit of wearing footwear as they suffer from skin infections on account of roaming around barefoot, especially in the rainy season. To control the wide spread incidence of scabies noticed amongst 90 % of the children, the school is provided with medicines like Benzene Hexachloride (Gamma Scab ). Toothbrushes, toothpastes and soaps are provided to the students to encourage better personal hygiene. Students are also given additional supplements like vitamin syrups and deworming capsules.
